This information helps review
the history of our building project, giving an overview of the process and next
stages ahead.
1907 A new Chapel opened on
Monk Street for Bible-centred witness in Monmouth. The building deteriorated
over the years.
2002 we rejoiced in God's
provision for bringing the building up to scratch and the major plaster
works.
2003 The next step
was explored - should we stay or should we go? After prayer and discussion and
exploring a number of options, we felt led to stay put, for the
following
reasons:
•Availability: no other suitable sites
were available
•History, We could build on the vision of the Church from over
100 years ago.
•Centrality.
It is a central and neutral location. •Flexibility. Disposing of our building
and just renting other premises would limit this.
Church review and Consultation:
Our discussions centred on what to do with our building. After prayer and
listening to each other, we felt that the improvements needed to focus on making
the building more: Accessible, welcoming and useful.
2004 Stone Ecclesiastical were
employed to conduct a Feasibility Study.
2005 Feasibility Study
Proposals Discussed:
• Accessible - platform lift, toilets etc.
•
Welcoming - second steps, porch doors, new foyer.
• Useful - refurbishment
upstairs and redesign downstairs, dealing especially with damp
problems.
2006-2007 Planning and
design stages completed- permissions granted with some exceptions-( e.g. keep
the side pews).
2007 Autumn - Works
began:
• The works are currently (Jan 2008)
ahead of progress with few hic-ups.
• We continue to seek God's
provision for full funding
• We are exploring ways in which we can
begin making use of the new premises.
2008 June -
Re-opening celebrations and new ministries begin to optimise the building's
use.
2012 paid off any debts
Overall Vision:
To make our
building a useful, accessible resource, which better serves God's call to local
mission and witness in the 21s' Century:
Knowing Jesus better making Jesus
known!
